PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet recorder in which dry wiping can be prevented, and to provide its wiping method. SOLUTION: The ink jet recorder comprises a recording head having a nozzle surface for opening a plurality of nozzles through which ink is ejected for printing, a means for causing ink to flow over the nozzle by applying a driving waveform to ink, a means for wiping the ink on the nozzle surface caused to flow over the nozzle by applying a driving waveform from the means for applying a driving waveform, and a back pressure control means for imparting a positive back pressure to ink when the nozzle surface of the recording head is wiped by the wiping means.
