PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vacuum cleaner capable of effectively separating dust even if the axial length of a dust collector is short. SOLUTION: The internal circumferential face of the dust collector 17 is gradually enlarged downward so as to make the rotation angular rate of a vortex flow slower as it becomes lower in the dust collector 17. This constitution scarcely disturbs the dust accumulated in the bottom of the dust collector 17 and greatly prevents the dust from riding on the air current and rising compared with that of the conventional one. This constitution can also prevent the separated dust from riding on the air flow again and rising and, even if the axial length of the dust collector 17 is shortened, namely, its height is lowered, retains the separated dust in the bottom of the dust collector 17 so as to miniaturize the dust collector 17 and the cleaner whole body.
