<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a backlight device using light emitting diodes as light sources, which can radiate heat generated by the light emitting diodes more effectively, and to provide a liquid crystal display using the backlight device. <P>SOLUTION: The backlight device 1 comprises: a light guide plate 2; a light source unit 4 attached to a side wall of the light guide plate, which irradiates light to the light guide plate 2; and a back case 3 which contains respective members together. The light source unit 4 consists of a film wiring board 6 on which a predetermined wiring pattern is formed and at least one light emitting diode 5 which is mounted on the film wiring board. While the light emitting diode 5 is arranged in such a way that a light outgoing surface of the light emitting diode faces a side wall of the light guide plate 2, transparent resin material 7 with good thermal conductivity is included closely between the light outgoing surface of the light emitting diode 5 and a side wall of the light guide plate 2, and between the film wiring board 6 and a side wall of the light guide plate 2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
