<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cam type drum brake device capable of stably obtaining high output regardless of a vehicle posture. <P>SOLUTION: The rotating direction of a rotary drum 48 in brake release is judged by a rotating direction judging means F2 in accordance with the vehicle posture when the vehicle posture, that is, the advancing direction of the vehicle, the inclined direction of a road surface, etc. are detected by a posture detection means F1, and additionally, the revolving direction of a T-letter rod 74 is decided in a direction to match with the rotating direction by a revolving direction determining means F3.
