摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system whose nitrogen oxide cleaning catalyst does not suffer sulfur poisoning, in an exhaust emission control system for a diesel engine or the like. <P>SOLUTION: A sulfur-content-absorbent material whose main contents are a compound containing alkali metal and a compound containing alkaline-earth metal is installed upstream side of exhaust with respect to the nitrogen oxide cleaning catalyst, and desulfurization of the sulfur content absorbed once is not substantially performed in a normal status of an internal combustion engine, so that the poisoning of the nitrogen oxide cleaning catalyst is prevented. Combination of a sulfur oxidation catalyst with the sulfur content absorption material improves performance of the sulfur-content-absorbent material. The need of a regeneration control system for a case where the nitrogen oxide cleaning catalyst suffers the sulfur poisoning is eliminated, and deterioration in fuel economy along with the regeneration is avoided. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
