<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact programmable delay generation device with low power consumption which can set the delay time in a wide span and is capable of rapid and repetitious generation of pulses. <P>SOLUTION: The programmable delay generation device used for generating a timing signal includes a plurality of delay generation circuits which have the same number of bits for a control code and the same circuit configuration and are cascade-connected; and a code conversion circuit which converts codes for setting a delay into control codes according to the code conversion rule and then supplies the control codes to the plurality of delay generation circuits, respectively. The sum of the capacities of capacitors which constitute the delay generation circuit is identical in each stage.
