<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display apparatus where simplifying and size reduction of its constitution are achieved. <P>SOLUTION: The image display apparatus 30 includes a projector 1 having an image forming section 10 for forming an image, and projection lenses 11a and 11b by which the image formed by the image forming section 10 is projected onto a screen; and an image passage area control section 2 disposed near a diaphragm for the projection lenses 11a and 11b of the projector 1 and including a transmission area 25c that allows the transmission of light corresponding to the image, which has been passed through the projection lens 11a, and a light-intercepting area 25d that intercepts this light; and a single Fresnel lens 3 that composes a screen on which the image corresponding to the light passed through the transmission area 25c of the image passage area control section 2 is formed, and that condenses light, corresponding to the image towards at least the left eye 6a or the right eye 6b of an observer 6.
