PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus in which an image defect is prevented from being incurred by leaked light by surely shielding the leaked light from an illuminating light source even when the width of a substrate is made narrow. SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus A comprises a case 100 and a substrate 200 fitted into a bottom opening 110 of the case 100 so as to support the outer edge of an upper surface on a stage 115 formed on an inner surface of the bottom opening 110. An illuminating light source and a plurality of photo-detectors are packaged on the substrate 200, and the photo-detectors are covered with a JCR 230. Furthermore, in the image reading apparatus A, a light shielding wall 140 is provided on the case 100 so as to extend toward the substrate 200 for shielding light from the illuminating light source. The stage 115 formed on the inner surface of the bottom opening 110 of the case 100 is formed to include a wedge-like cross section portion 115a which can be engaged into the JCR 230 in a predetermined block.
