PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the inclusion of foreign substances, such as dust, into a liquid crystal television while the heat generated during its use is dissipated. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal television (video display device) 100 which is equipped with a cabinet 20 formed with slits 26 for heat dissipation for allowing the internal heat to escape to the outside and which displays videos when a power source is on while switching on and off of the power source. The television 100 is provided with a slit opening and closing means for opening and closing the slits 26 for heat dissipation according to the on and off of the power source. More preferably, the slit opening and closing means is composed of an electromagnet 70 which is inserted into the line of the power source, and an opening/closing plate 60 which opens the slits 26 for heat dissipation by being attracted toward the electromagnet 70 in the magnetized state by the formation of the slits 62 of the shape complying with the shape of the slits 26 for heat dissipation and on the other hand, which closes the slits 26 for heat dissipation by detaching from the electromagnet 70 when the non-magnetized state of the electromagnet 70 is attained.
