PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of minimizing a plane projection area even when a paper feed cassette is used in an extended state. SOLUTION: The paper feed cassette 2 comprises a main frame 10 and a slide frame 20 movable in a paper feeding direction according to the size of paper. The slide mechanism 30 of the slide frame 20 is installed at an overlapped portion between these frames. The slide mechanism 30 comprises a guide groove 31 as a slide guide and a guide pin 32 engaged with the guide groove. The paper feed cassette 2 in the extended state can upwardly bend the slide frame 20 forming an upstream part in paper feeding direction. In this case, the slide frame 20 is rotated in a vertical plane so as to raise its upstream end about a guide pin 32 at any position in the paper feeding direction of the paper feed cassette 2.
