PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely separate and feed paper one by one by performing preparative separation of paper before paper reaches a nip formed between a feeding roller and a separation member. SOLUTION: A lift plate 3 having paper P mounted thereon is provided on an inner bottom surface of a paper storage part 2 of a paper feeding device 1. A pick up roller 11 presses against the uppermost layer of the paper P on the lift plate 3 and feeds out the same to a downstream side. A paper feed roller 12 receives paper P from the pick up roller 11 and takes the same out to an outside of the paper feeding device, and a main separation roller 13 pressing against the paper feed roller 12 separating overlapping paper P. An auxiliary separation roller 14 which is a rotary body is provided between the pick up roller 11 and the paper feed roller 12. The auxiliary separation roller 14 is arranged in such a manner that a crest part of an outer circumference circle thereof is positioned at a part upper than a common tangent T in a paper contact part side of an outer circumference circle of the pick up roller 11 and an outer circumference circle of the paper feed roller 12.
