PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recorder capable of surely preventing burnout of a drive circuit of a piezoelectric element, and an image recording method. SOLUTION: This inkjet recording head has arranged thereon a plurality of piezoelectric elements each for independently ejecting an ink droplet for recording an image by being driven according to respective image data. It is detected that each piezoelectric element becomes in a short-circuit condition at a predetermined timing. The driving of the piezoelectric element of which the short-circuit condition is detected, is prohibited by means of a mask information forming section 74. The prohibition of the driving of the piezoelectric element by means of the mask information forming section 74 is carried out such that mask data which is used to set the image data to be a state of driving of the piezoelectric element or a state of non-driving thereof by each corresponding piezoelectric element by means of a print data forming section 82 is stored in a mask memory 76 beforehand and the mask data is made to be one which is used to set the image data to be a state of non-driving of the piezoelectric element of which the short-circuit condition is detected.
