PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide surface treating oil capable of improving feedability and rust resistance of a solid wire and the solid wire for gas shielded arc welding coated with surface treating oil. SOLUTION: The surface of steel wire used for a solid wire for gas shielded arc welding is coated with surface treating oil (oil) which contains metal salt consisting of sodium (Na), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), and zinc (Zn), non-metal phosphorus (P) and a hydrocarbon compound having two or more of active groups selected from ester group, carboxylic acid group, and alkane group. According to this invention, the solid wire for gas shielded arc welding which is superior to conventional solid wire especially in terms of rust resistance and feedability can be made by coating the solid wire with the specific liquefied surface treating agent.
