A graphite film that excels in thermal diffusivity and has a high density, and that at its surface is free from flaw, dents and creases and excels in planarity. For obtaining the same, there is provided a process for producing a graphite film, comprising sequentially subjecting a raw film consisting of a polymer film and/or a carbonized polymer film to a graphitization step and/or a posterior planar pressurization step to thereby obtain a graphite film. The graphitization step is the step of carrying out a heat treatment of two or more raw films in laminated form at a maximum temperature of 2000°C or higher, and includes the method of conducting current application heating of the raw films per se and/or the method of carrying out a heat treatment thereof under planar pressurization. The posterior planar pressurization step includes the method of performing planar pressurization of the raw films after graphitization alone or in the form of a laminate of multiple films by means of single-plate press or vacuum press. |
