The position of the lumbar support area at the backrest of a car seat can be manually adjusted with a reel containing a cable (13a) to be wound up or released as required and connected to sliding elements moving the support unit. Two brake disks (3c) with polygonal outer surfaces (3b) engaging with a complementary inner surface (3a) at a housing (4) are permanently joined, forming the reel. The cable (13a) is guided in a groove (5) between the two disks (3c).
