<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power generation method and device utilizing organic substances, capable of obtaining high current density even in continuous operation. <P>SOLUTION: The power generation device is equipped with a microorganism capable of growing under an anaerobic condition, solution or suspension containing organic substances, an anaerobic region 4 containing an electronic mediator and an anode 1, an aerobic region 5 containing molecular oxygen and a cathode 3, and a membrane 2 partitioning the anaerobic region 4 and the aerobic region 5, and a closed circuit 6 is formed by electrically connecting the anode 1 and the cathode 3 to an apparatus utilizing electric power, the oxidation reaction of the microorganism using the organic substances in the anaerobic region 4 as an electron donor and the reduction reaction using oxygen in the aerobic region 5 as an electron acceptor are utilized.
