<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance the efficiency of trapping particulates and minimize pressure drop, in particular, minimize pressure drop during trapping particulates in a wall-flow type particulate filter. <P>SOLUTION: The particulate filter includes flow paths 6 plugged at their inlet sides and flow paths 6 plugged at their outlet sides, the flow paths 6 being formed by porous thin walls 8 having honeycomb construction. In the particulate filter, exhaust gas flowing from the flow paths 6 which are not plugged at their inlet side passes through the porous thin walls 8 so as to be discharged via the flow paths 6 which are not plugged at their outlet sides.
