ENGINE EQUIPPED WITH CATALYST SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine which can easily increase the temperature of exhaust gas.

SOLUTION: A catalyst system including an NSR catalyst 12 and a DPNR catalyst 13 is arranged in an exhaust passage 9. The catalyst system 11 is provided with a temperature sensor 16 for measuring the temperature of inflowing exhaust gas. A viscous heater 20 for heating cooling water by making use of heat caused when shearing force acts on a viscous fluid is arranged in a cooling water circulation path 22. The engine 10 and the viscous heater 20 are connected to each other via a clutch 21 to engage/disengage an output shaft of the engine 10 with/from an input shaft of the viscous heater 20. There are provided a fuel supply pump 4 for adjusting an amount of the supply of fuel to the engine 10 and a revolving speed sensor which detects the revolving speed of the engine 10. The fuel supply pump 4, the revolving speed sensor 14 and the temperature sensor 16 are electrically connected to a control unit 17.
