PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more exactly keep a satisfactory cleaning performance for a long period of time in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a facsimile or a printer, particularly, in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus provided with a cleaning blade that scraps residual matter remaining on the surface of an image carrier whose surface is moved in a circle in a predetermined direction while holding a toner image thereon. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: the cleaning blade 152 by which residual matter remaining on the surface 101 of the image carrier 10 after a toner image is transferred to a transfer face 20 is scraped from the surface 101 by the contact of the leading edge 1521 of the cleaning blade with the surface 101; storing members 153 and 154 defining a specific space S for receiving residual matter scraped by the cleaning blade 152 from the image carrier surface 101 and storing residual matter spread upstream of the leading edge in a specific direction and scraped; and a stirring member 155 for stirring residual matter stored in the specific space S.
