PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication device which reduces time and cost required for authentication processing and improves security for authentication information, and also provide an authentication system. SOLUTION: The authentication device, which collates authentication information which it receives, is provided with; an inputting device 202 which receives authentication information and instructions for collating the authentication information; a biological image reading device 200 which receives biological information; an external storage device which stores encoded authentication information which is encoded based on the biological information; and a password collation circuit 204 which decodes the encoded authentication information, which is stored in the external storage device, based on biological information obtained by analyzing a biological image received by the biological image reading device, and collates the decoded authentication information with the authentication information which the inputting device 202 receives.
