PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase precision in temperature control of an engine by detecting temperature of coolant coming into and out of the engine accurately to prevent emission of the engine from worsening. SOLUTION: This engine cooling device is provided with a first flow passage/a second flow passage 2 for circulating coolant between the engine and a radiator, a bypass passage 3 for communicating these flow passages mutually, a flow passage switching means 4 provided in a connection part of the first flow passage or the second flow passage 2 and the bypass passage 3, a temperature detection means 5 for detecting temperature of coolant, and an adjusting means for adjusting flow passage area of the flow passage switching means 4. The temperature detection means 5 has a mounting part 5a for the second flow passage 2 and a heat detection element 5b for measuring temperature of coolant and is provided with a heat resistance means for suppressing transfer of heat of a member constituting the second flow passage 2 to the heat detection element 5b through the mounting part 5a.
