PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the thickness of a side face without enlarging the outer diameter more than necessary and prevent deformation and bending without shielding the illumination light from an illumination window. SOLUTION: This hood 18 for an endoscope is provided with a hood part 20 projecting from the front face of the distal end of the endoscope and a fitting retaining part 19 fitted to the side face of the distal end, the diameter of the internal circumferential face of the hood part 20 is reduced to increase the thickness of the side face of the hood part 20 by roughly 2 mm, and the illumination window at the front face of the distal end is exposed to the internal circumferential face of the hood part 20 to form a notch face 21 becoming in parallel to the illumination optical axis. An outlet 23 discharging undesired substances inside the hood part 20 is provided in the side position between the hood part 20 and the fitting retaining part 19 facing an air/water supply nozzle.
