摘要 An optical fiber manufacturing apparatus and method are provided to effectively reduce PMD(Polarization Mode Dispersion) by applying spin effect on an optical fiber without directly twisting the optical fiber. An optical fiber manufacturing apparatus includes a furnace(20), an outer diameter measuring unit(25), a cooling unit(30), a coating unit(35), a curing unit(40), a guide roller(45), a driver(50), and a winding bobbin(55). An ultrasonic or sonic vibrator(100) is applied on a preform(10) by using a vacuum adapter(60). The vacuum adapter is applied on a preform handling unit(11), which deals with the preform. A controller(150) controls operation modes of inner components. A user interface(151) and a display device(152) are included in the optical fiber manufacturing apparatus. A supersonic wave with a frequency of 5~30kHz or a sonic wave with a frequency of 300~600Hz is used to reduce PMD of the optical fiber.
