Halogen-containing polymers are stabilized towards heat and/or light by incorporating a small proportion, e.g. 0.1 to 3 per cent, of a hexaorgano-distannoxane of formula in which R may be aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or heterocyclic, such as methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, tertiary-butyl, amyl, isoamyl, tertiary-amyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, dodecyl, 2-ethyl-butyl, 2-ethyl-hexyl, phenyl, tolyl, xylyl, naphthyl, cyclohexyl and thienyl. The halogen-containing polymer may be polyvinyl chloride, a copolymer of vinyl chloride with vinyl acetate, acrylic or methacrylic acid, an acrylate or methacrylate, acrylonitrile, an unsaturated dicarboxylic acid or an anhydride or ester thereof, vinylidene chloride or a diene, an after-chlorinated polymer or copolymer of vinyl chloride, or a polymer or copolymer of a halogen-containing organo-silicon compound. The composition may also contain a plasticizer, such as dioctyl phthalate.ALSO:Hexabutyldistannoxane of formula is prepared by a process in which 50 grams of tributyl-tin chloride are dissolved in alcohol and boiled with 150 c.c. of 20 per cent caustic soda solution until all the alcohol has been driven off; the turbid oil so obtained is separated off and heated at 200-220 DEG C. to bring about ether formation, water being distilled off. Hexabutyl-distannoxane is obtained in the form of a yellowish oil by distillation at 200 DEG C. under 4 mm. pressure of mercury.ALSO:Chlorinated paraffin wax is stabilized towards heat and/or light by incorporating a small proportion, e.g. 0.1 to 3 per cent, of a hexaorgano-distannoxane of formula: in which R may be aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or heterocyclic, such as methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, tertiary-butyl, amyl, isoamyl, tertiary-amyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, diodecyl, 2 - ethyl - butyl, 2 - ethyl - hexyl, phenyl, tolyl, xylyl, naphthyl, cyclohexyl and thienyl, butyl, isobutyl or tertiary-butyl being preferred.ALSO:Chlorinated rubber is stabilized towards heat and/or light by incorporating a small proportion, e.g. 0,1 to 3 per cent of a hexaorgano-distannoxane of formula: in which R may be aliphatic, alicyclic, aromatic or heterocyclic, such as methyl, ethyl, propyl, isopropyl, butyl, isobutyl, tertiary-butyl, amyl, isoamyl, tertiary-amyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, dodecyl, 2-ethyl-butyl, 2-ethyl-hexyl, phenyl, tolyl, xylyl, naphthyl, cyclohexyl and thienyl, butyl, isobutyl or tertiary-butyl being preferred.
