A plasma display panel driving method is provided to keep stable and fast address discharge characteristic by improving the pulse waveform applied to Y or X electrodes of a plasma display panel, and to secure high contrast ratio and high luminance by assigning a sufficient sustain discharge time. According to a method for driving a plasma display panel having one frame divided into a plurality of sub fields comprising a reset period, an address period, and a sustain discharge period, and expressing the gray scale of the plasma display panel by discharging of the sub fields, a voltage level(Vyd-1,Vyd-2,Vyd-n) of a scan electrode(Y) at the time that ramp-down is concluded, gradually decreases according to the progress order of the sub fields in each reset period.
