<p>According to the present invention, there is provided a method for providing brake control, autobrake and antiskid brake functionality by recognizing that the only difference between the three functions is the amount of deceleration they allow. Unlike a conventional system where the pedals represent brake pressure, the present invention interprets pedal commands as desired deceleration. The method involves calculating a first acceleration (Ws'cmd) from a received brake command from pilot or autobrake system, calculating a second acceleration (Ws'ach) from a change in reference wheel speed (Wsref) during an antislid cycle, using the first acceleration (Ws'cmd) to normalize the second acceleration (Ws'ach), and calaculating an acceleration modifier (AccMod) from the normalized second acceleration (NWs'ach).
