An LCD and a method for manufacturing the LCD are provided to continuously monitor the dielectric property of an alignment layer during manufacturing of the LCD, by forming capacitor patterns for measuring the dielectric property of the alignment layer in a TFT substrate or a color filter substrate. An LCD comprises a thin film transistor substrate(200), capacitor patterns(510,520), and an alignment layer(100) formed above the thin film transistor substrate. The capacitor patterns are electrified to measure the dielectric properties of a pixel electrode and the alignment layer. The alignment layer is contacted with the capacitor patterns. The pixel electrode and the capacitor patterns are formed in the same layer.
