An apparatus and a method for correcting the time information of a receiver are provided to correct the difference between current time information included in a broadcasting signal transmitted from a broadcasting station and a time when the current time information is applied. A local system timer(200) is initialized as an arbitrary value at the same time when the power is applied to a receiver. A tuner(110) tunes a broadcasting signal transmitted from a broadcasting station. A de-modulator(120) modulates the tuned signal, corrects an error and converts the signal as a TS(Transport Stream) type. A de-multiplexer(130) divides the TS from a broadcasting station into a video signal, an audio signal and an additional information signal stream. An MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) decoder(140) extends/restores the video signal and audio signal stream. A control member(300) extracts the time information from the additional information of the divided signal stream, and compares the extracted time information with the next time information. The control member also compares the reception lapsed time value with the system result time value so that the local system time is controlled by the comparison result. The time information value and local system timer value are stored in a memory(400).
