A system and a method for a DPS using a portable terminal are provided to directly perform a print process through a printer in the portable terminal, thereby solving user's inconvenience caused by cable connection. A system for a DPS(Direct Print Service) using a portable terminal comprises the portable terminal(100) and a print device(120). The portable terminal(100) comprises the followings: the first communication unit(101) for transceiving data in an IR(Impulse Radio) mode; the first print service controller(104) for determining whether to support a DPS and IR with the other party's device; and a storage(103) for storing data which will be printed. The print device(120) comprises the followings: the second communication unit(131) for transceiving data in the IR mode; the second print service controller(134) for determining whether to support the DPS and IR with the portable terminal(100); a temporary storage(133) for receiving data, which will be printed, and temporarily storing the received data; and a print(135) for performing a print process.
