An LCD is provided to easily detect the accurate position for an edge grinding process and a polarizer attaching process, by removing a portion of a black matrix to expose an alignment mark in a non-display area to the outside. A first substrate(252) has a display area and a non-display area. Thin film transistors, which are formed within respective sub-pixels defined by gate lines and data lines, are disposed in the display area. A drive region is formed in the non-display area. A second substrate(254) is opposite to the first substrate, and has a color filter layer and a black matrix(260). A liquid crystal layer is formed between the first substrate and the second substrate. A portion of the black matrix, which is disposed in a portion of the non-display area, is removed. An alignment mark(250) is provided in the portion of the non-display area, in which the black matrix is absent.
