Seismic source and method for creating seismic shear waves

The source has a magnetostrictive oscillation producer to produce oscillations with an oscillation direction, which is parallel to a surface of an inspection object. A transmission unit (12) is mechanically connected with the producer to transmit the oscillations. The unit (12) has a single-piece or multi-piece contact surface (17), through which the oscillations can be injected into the object. The contact surface is attachable on the object and has a specific maximum linear expansion smaller than the greatest distance between two bearings that are relocatable parallel to the direction. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a machine with a rotatable bearing on which a supporting unit of a seismic source is attached; and (2) a method for producing seismic oscillations such as shear waves in an inspection object.
