A mode conversion method for a mobile communication terminal and an apparatus therefor are provided to convert a current mode into a deep sleep mode although the terminal is connected with external equipment to have the efficiency of the developing/debugging of software used in the terminal. A mobile terminal corrects a macro function so that a value of a variable for performing conversion to a deep sleep mode of the mobile terminal does not differ by a value outputted by the macro function for determining whether a current mode is converted into the deep sleep mode of the mobile terminal according to whether the mobile terminal is connected with an external data module. A user requests the conversion to the deep sleep mode of the mobile terminal(S1-S3). The mobile terminal converts the current mode into the deep sleep mode(S4).
