A hard disc identifying method in an image recording apparatus is provided to easily identify which image recording device have data of respective hard discs recorded by storing proper identification numbers for respective hard discs when the hard discs are installed, and then detecting the stored identification numbers when the hard discs are booted. Data stored in a UAA(User Access Area) of a hard disc are read, and then an identification number for the hard disc is detected(S202). The identification number for the detected hard disc is compared with information stored in a memory(S204). When the identification number for the detected hard disc is not found in the memory, the identification number is recorded in the memory(S206). When the identification number for the detected hard disc is found in the memory, the identification number is displayed on a display part(S208).
