Disclosed are a method and an apparatus for enabling a user equipment (UE) to reselect a preferred cell capable of providing a desired broadcast service in a mobile communication system providing a multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS). The UE receives a signal including information related to a preferred frequency layer from the RNC, reselects a preferred cell from along cells providing the MBMS by using frequency and cell information included in the signal and receives the MBMS through the reselected cell.
