A chapter marking method of a recording medium in a digital video recording and reproducing apparatus is provided to perform the automatic chapter marking on one recording medium without an extra input operation by a user while data are copied onto another recording medium. When a media copy mode is selected(S101), a source disc and a target disc are selected(S102). Media of the source disc are reproduced, and simultaneously copied on the target disc(S103). It is checked whether chapter information is detected from the media of the source disc during copy of the media(S104). If the chapter information is detected, a chapter marking process is performed on the media of the target disc(S105). The copying and chapter marking processes are repeated until the copying process is completed.
