A wired/wireless terminal and a method for informing a caller that an absent state has been released by using a short message service are provided to allow a caller to recognize when he/she can attempt a call to a callee and the callee not to return a call for every call received in his/her absence. A controller(110) stores a caller number included in at least one ring signal received in the user's absence. When the absence state is released, the controller(110) transmits information on releasing of the absence state to the caller number. A message processing module(113) transmits the short message to an arbitrary terminal. A received call processing module(111) extracts the caller number from the ring signal and stores it. In case of the absence state, an absence state processing module(112) stores the caller number extracted from the ring signal by the received call processing module(111) in an absence release notification list, and when the absence state is released, the absence state processing module(112) enables the message processing module(113) to transmit the short message informing that the absence state has been released to the caller number stored in the absence release notification list.
