A routing system and a method for managing forwarding information in the routing system are provided to enable a table to store indexes of an output interface table including output interface information necessary for a received packet to be transmitted to the next hop and store indexes of an MAC(Medial Access Control) table including MAC information necessary for the received packet to be transmitted to the next hop, thereby preventing omission of a packet. A method for managing forwarding information in the routing system comprises the following steps of: storing address information, included in the forwarding information, and forwarding ID(Identification) information corresponding to the address information in a first table, and providing the first table to a routing controller; copying the first table to a second table and providing the address, included reset forwarding information, and forwarding ID information included in the second table to at least one forwarding unit when the forwarding ID information, corresponding to the address information included in the reset forwarding information, is included in the second table(S514,S516) ; and maintaining forwarding information, which corresponds to the forwarding ID information included in the second table and is set before rebooting of a routing controller, when the forwarding ID information included in the second table is included in the first table.
