An LCD and a method for manufacturing the same are provided to enable the reduction of a width in a light shielding layer and reduce the surface resistance of a common electrode, by forming the light shielding layer directly on the common electrode. Color filters(230) are formed on a substrate(210). An overcoat layer(250) is formed on the color filters. A common electrode(270) is formed on the overcoat layer. A light shielding layer(220) is formed on the common electrode. The light shielding layer is contacted with the common electrode, and has a conductor. The conductor includes chrome and chrome oxide. The common electrode has a cut portion(71).
