A printer and a control method thereof are provided to enable a user to understand abnormality of a storage device embedded in the printer during a printing job of the printer and solve a problem of not performing the printing job by detecting the abnormality of the storage device in real-time. A controller(20a) periodically detects the abnormality of the storage device(40), stores abnormality information corresponding to a detection result to a data storing part(30), and transmits the abnormality information stored in the data storing part to a host(50) in case that a transfer request of the abnormality information for the storage device is detected from the host. In the case that a printing job executing command is received while the abnormality is detected from the storage device, the controller continuously advances detection after terminating the printing job.
