A driving method of a field emission display is provided to cut down the cost for circuits by using a driver having only turn-on/off function for a data driving unit to express the gray scale and to conveniently regulate the voltage by controlling the voltage between a cathode electrode and a gate electrode. A driving method of a field emission display includes steps of dividing one frame into at least two sub fields(SF1~SF8) and assigning the same time(St1~St8) to the sub fields and applying the different voltages to a cathode electrode and/or a gate electrode for every sub field. The voltage level applied to each sub field is increased at irregular intervals in proportion to a luminance relative ratio.
