An apparatus and a method for preventing an LCD screen lock-up phenomenon in a mobile terminal are provided to prevent LCD from being unnecessarily initialized by a voltage threshold value in determining a reference level of the LCD initialization by monitoring whether ESD(Electro Static Discharge) is generated by comparing data. A display memory unit(32) stores display data. An LCD module(33) stores the display data transmitted from the display memory unit(32) in an internal display memory, and displays the display data on an LCD. A processor(31) transmits the display data of the display memory unit(32) to the LCD module(33), compares the display data stored in the internal memory of the LCD module(33) and that of the display memory unit(32), and resets the LCD module(33) when the compared data are not identical.
