An image forming apparatus is provided to prevent the generation of image omission by restraining stress concentration generated in a joint part of a protection tape or a joint part of a guide rail and the modification of a middle transfer belt generated by the difference of elongation rates of the protection tape and the middle transfer belt. An image is formed on a photosensitive medium. A middle transfer belt(1) is contacted with the photosensitive medium, and is installed to perform infinite orbit motion. The middle transfer belt(1) transfers the image to a printing medium. A guide rail(4) guides the infinite orbit motion of the middle transfer belt(1). The guide rail(4) is installed in an internal surface of both side ends of the middle transfer belt(1). A protection tape(70) is attached to only a joint part of the guide rail(4) and a circumference part of the joint part between the middle transfer belt(1) and the guide rail(4). A belt driving unit includes a plurality of rollers and performs the infinite orbit motion of the middle transfer belt(1).
