A motor-driven pump unit using a single shaft (main shaft (4)) which serves as the rotary shaft of the pump section and also as the rotary shaft of the motor section, wherein the rotor of the motor is of a construction (IPM construction) in which a magnet (6) is embedded in a rotor core (5). This arrangement makes the motor-driven pump unit of the invention free from the need for disposing a protective ring around the periphery of the rotor core (5). Further, it also becomes possible for the inner diameter surface of a stator core (7) to support the rotation of the main shaft (4). Therefore, the motor- driven pump unit of the invention is light weight, compact, and inexpensive as compared with conventional articles.
