A personal portable terminal and a method for controlling a side button part of the personal portable terminal are provided to mount the side button part easily operated by a hand. Side button parts(130) are formed to be adjacent to left and right edges of an upper part of a terminal body, and are partially exposed to the outside of the terminal body. A control unit, mounted in the terminal body, controls the operation of the side button parts(130). The two side button parts(130) are symmetrically or asymmetrically mounted in both side parts of the terminal body.
