A video display device emits a first light emission component occupying D% time of the vertical period of a video signal a having S% light emission intensity of the light emission intensity of the pixel displayed in the vertical period and a second light emission component occupying (100 - D)% time of the vertical period and having (100 - S)% light emission intensity of the light intensity of the pixel displayed in the vertical period. The values of D and S are set so as to satisfy the condition A: 62 <= S < 100 and 0 < D < 100 and D < S or the condition B: 48 < S < 62 and D <= (S - 48)/0.23.
