PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochemical element in which appropriate pressure can be imparted to a multilayer electrode sheet in the layer direction. SOLUTION: An electric double layer capacitor 10 comprises a plurality of electrode sheets 2 in which an electrode layer 2b is provided on a current collection foil 2a, and a separator 4 arranged between the electrode sheets 2 wherein the electrode layer 2b and the separator 4 are impregnated with electrolyte. The electric double layer capacitor 10 is constituted by sandwiching the multilayer electrode sheet 2 in the layer direction between two substantially L-shaped lead plates 3 each having a wall 31 for collecting positive or negative current from a part of the plurality of electrode sheets 2 and a wall 32 for holding the end electrode sheet 2 out of the multilayer electrode sheet 2.
