PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform recording history management in a middle state before finalization in recording using a single-sided double layer recordable optical disk (DVD-RS/DL) and to achieve reproduction compatibility with an existing format (VR mode or the like of DVD-RAM/RW) after the finalization. SOLUTION: By using a virtual allocation table (VAT) defined by a DVD-R (VR) standard in the middle state of a DVD-R/DL, the history management of the DVD-RS (RV) is enabled even in the DVD-R/DL. Lastly, by rewriting volume and file structures according to the DL standard, compatibility is achieved with a player capable of playing a DVD-RAM (VR) or the like. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
