PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substance fixing method for detecting the substance, which is specifically reacted with the substance fixed on a substrate and/or the substance to be fixed on the substrate, with high sensitivity. SOLUTION: In the method for fixing the substance to be fixed on the substrate. the substrate is coated with a coating solution containing a polymer having an effect for preventing the non-specific adsorption of the substance to be fixed and/or the substance specifically reacted with the substance to be fixed to the surface of the substrate and a polymer layer is formed at least to a part of the surface of the substrate. Subsequently, the substrate having the polymer layer is coated with a mixture, which is composed of the substance to be fixed and a photo-crosslinking agent having at least two optically reactive groups in its one molecule, and the coated substrate is irradiated with light.
