Pasture meter using echo detection to determine amount of vegetative material in region

A pasture meter 1 that includes a sound burst transmitter 5a, 5b and a receiver 6a, 6b to detect echoes of the sound burst is disclosed. Signals representing the echoes are processed 7 to determine ground location 4 and vegetation location 3, which gives an indication of the amount of vegetative material in a particular region.
