<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a color filter for a display element in which uneven overlaps of a color filter substrate obtained by forming a resin black matrix and colored pixels on a glass substrate can be uniformly polished by a polishing technique in a short time, and to provide a color filter for a display element. <P>SOLUTION: A polishing agent is preliminarily applied to a polishing cloth 55 or to a surface of the color filter substrate 65 for a display element and polishing is started.
